Radiation Safety Officer(Nuclear Medicine)

Roles and Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all radiation safety regulations and guidelines issued by the relevant regulatory authorities.
• Supervise the safe receipt, storage, handling, administration, and disposal of radioactive materials.
• Monitor radiation exposure levels of staff, patients, and the public, and maintain personnel dosimetry records.
• Conduct routine radiation surveys, contamination monitoring, and quality assurance checks in Nuclear Medicine areas.
• Develop, implement, and monitor the Radiation Safety Programme, including standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Investigate radiation incidents or abnormal exposure events and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Maintain statutory records, licenses, approvals, inventory registers, waste disposal records, and regulatory documentation.
• Coordinate with regulatory authorities during inspections, audits, and license renewals.
• Ensure availability and proper maintenance of radiation monitoring instruments, protective equipment, and emergency kits.
• Support Nuclear Medicine physicians and technologists in maintaining a safe working environment.
• Conduct periodic radiation safety audits and recommend process improvements.

Qualification

• M.Sc. in Physics / Medical Physics or equivalent qualification recognized by the competent authority/valid Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) certification/approval for Nuclear Medicine as per applicable regulatory requirements.
• 1+ years of experience in a Nuclear Medicine department or diagnostic centre preferred.
