Job Description
Role & Responsibilities
- Own the quality bar for product releases and determine what needs to be tested, how deeply, and when a release is ready to ship.
- Perform exploratory, functional, regression, and end-to-end testing across the product.
- Understand complex business workflows and validate scenarios involving travel policies, approval chains, fare classes, refundability, cancellations, bookings, and payments.
- Design effective test cases and scenarios by identifying important permutations, edge cases, and failure scenarios rather than simply executing predefined test scripts.
- Investigate defects thoroughly, create minimal reproducible cases, identify the likely source of the issue, and provide clear information that helps engineers resolve it quickly.
- Validate not only whether a feature works, but whether the actual behaviour is correct according to the business requirement and expected product behaviour.
- Work closely with developers and product teams to clarify requirements, identify risks, and resolve quality issues.
- Help strengthen and improve the company's QA processes, testing practices, and release standards as the product continues to evolve.
- Contribute to building the company's test automation practice from the ground up, with support and guidance from the engineering team.
- Explore and adopt AI-assisted testing and development practices to improve test coverage, generate test permutations, analyse code changes, improve defect reporting, and eventually accelerate automation.
- Take ownership of quality rather than functioning only as a test-case executor.
- Work directly with engineers and gain deep knowledge of a complex, evolving corporate travel product.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- 24 years of experience in QA/testing of a real-world software product used by actual customers.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, test case design, exploratory testing, regression testing, and defect management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with a natural tendency to think about edge cases, exceptions, failure scenarios, and unexpected user behaviour.
- Able to understand complex workflows and determine what the correct outcome should be, rather than simply checking whether the system produced an output.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate a bug, reproduce it reliably, narrow down the problem, and communicate findings clearly to engineers.
- Ability to prioritise testing effectively — knowing which scenarios matter most when there are many possible combinations.
- Strong attention to detail without losing sight of the larger business workflow.
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of the quality of a feature or release.
- Genuinely interested in building a long-term career in QA and test engineering.
- Willingness and curiosity to learn test automation and help establish automation practices from an early stage.
- Prior exposure to Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or REST Assured is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Experience with API testing, SQL, browser tools, logs, or other debugging/diagnostic tools is an advantage.
- Experience in travel, fintech, SaaS, payments, or another rules-heavy domain is a plus.
- A development/programming background that transitioned into QA/testing is a plus.
- Prior exposure to AI-assisted development or testing tools is a plus, but not required.
- Most importantly, demonstrates curiosity, engineering thinking, and a genuine interest in finding problems others might miss.
About the Role
Routespring is a corporate travel management platform that handles booking, travel policies, approvals, payments, and reporting for businesses. The QA Engineer will work on a product where a defect can directly affect a customer's travel experience or financial reporting.
This is not a traditional test-case execution role. We are looking for someone who wants to understand how the product should behave, challenge assumptions, uncover difficult edge cases, investigate problems deeply, and progressively build expertise in test automation.
