Job Description

Job Summary

We're hiring a PHP/Laravel developer with a builder's mindset and a learner's spirit. You'll work on real product features from day one - writing clean backend code, owning your work end to end, and reaching for the right technology when the problem demands it. We're not a PHP shop that tolerates PHP. We're a product team that happens to have a PHP core - and we expect you to think beyond it. If a feature is better served by Ruby on Rails or Go, that conversation is on the table.

Role Details

  • Location: Bengaluru
  • Department: Technology
  • Type: Full-Time
  • Hours: Start 11:00 am - 12:00 pm; Finish 8:00 - 9:00 pm; 1 hr lunch; 40h/week

Responsibilities

  • Design and build backend features and APIs using PHP/Laravel.
  • Write clean, maintainable code with meaningful test coverage and clear documentation.
  • Participate in architecture discussions and own your technical decisions.
  • Work closely with front-end engineers and product managers to ship features users love.
  • Contribute to code reviews - both giving and receiving feedback with openness.
  • Pick up adjacent technologies (Ruby on Rails, Golang) when the project calls for it.
  • Proactively surface technical debt and propose concrete solutions to reduce it.
  • Stay current with the Laravel ecosystem and backend development more broadly.

Requirements

  • 1-4 years of backend development experience with PHP/Laravel as your primary stack.
  • Solid grasp of REST API design, MVC patterns, and relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL).
  • Comfortable with Git-based workflows, code reviews, and sprint-based delivery.
  • Tech-agnostic at heart - you're good at PHP right now, but you're not defined by it.
  • Curious and self-directed: you learn new languages and frameworks without needing much hand-holding.
  • Strong debugging instincts - you approach problems systematically and don't stop at "it's probably X".
  • Ownership mentality - no task is someone else's problem.

Bonus Points

  • Any hands-on exposure to Ruby on Rails or Golang, including personal or open-source projects.
  • Experience with queue systems (Redis, Laravel Horizon, RabbitMQ).
  • Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Docker Compose).
  • Active side projects, open-source contributions, or a visible GitHub history.

What Success Looks Like

  • First feature delivered and merged; tests in place; codebase understood. (30 days)
  • Owning medium-complexity features end-to-end with minimal supervision. (90 days)
  • Trusted contributor with a track record of shipping clean, well-tested work on time. (6 months)
