Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop individualized care plans based on the patients needs, treatment protocols, and goals of care.
Monitor patients progress, evaluate treatment responses, and adjust care plans accordingly.
Administration of Treatments: Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and other cancer treatments as prescribed by the oncologist, following established protocols and ensuring accurate dosage and timing.
Manage intravenous lines, central venous access devices, and administer blood products when necessary.
Monitor patients during treatment, assessing vital signs, managing side effects, and promptly reporting any adverse reactions.
Symptom and Pain Management: Assess and manage cancer-related symptoms such as pain, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and other treatment side effects.
Provide appropriate interventions and medications to alleviate symptoms and improve patients quality of life.
Educate patients and families on self-care techniques and strategies to manage symptoms at home.
Patient Education and Support: Educate patients and their families about cancer, treatment options, potential side effects, and self-care measures.
Provide emotional support, counselling, and resources to help patients cope with the emotional and psychological challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, including oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, pharmacists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure coordinated and holistic care.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers, providing clear explanations, answering questions, and addressing concerns.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient assessments, treatments, interventions, and outcomes.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is preferred, although an Associate Degree in Nursing (GNM) may be accepted in some settings. A valid nursing license is required.
Clinical Experience: Prior experience in oncology or a related field is highly beneficial, but some positions may offer training and mentorship for new nurses.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of cancer types, treatments, and related side effects. Proficiency in chemotherapy administration, management of central venous access devices, and symptom management.
