Job description of nurses:

All nurses are allotted duty in rotation manner. Each duty is for 8 hours which includes 30 minutes lunch break and 15 minutes short break. Please be punctual

Your duty involves:

• Taking proper over of patients allotted to you from previous duty staff
• During your duty you should:
• Properly record and monitor that all the order regarding patient medication are carried out properly and in time
• Taking care that all the advised investigation are properly arranged and carried out as per protocol
• Taking care that all the advised consultations are properly arranged
• Patient Care: Bed care, Input , Output, ventilator care, catheter care, RT feeding as applicable, should be properly carried out and charted
• Attend the doctor round
• All linen proper monitoring and recording
• Urinary Catheter: Proper care and record
• Checking of emergency trolley in every shift
• Checking of code blue bag every day
• Proper segregation of B.M.W at point of generation and proper disposal
• Fridge medication stock: checking expiry date daily.
• Before leaving duty all registers must be duly and completely filled
• Proper handling over to next day staff`
• Please take care and maintain your own hygiene
• Reporting of any incidence like needle prick, medication mistake or fall etc.

Nursing Duty Responsibilities and Guidelines

Duty Schedule

• Nurses are assigned duties on a rotational basis.
• Each shift is 8 hours, including: 15 minutes Lunch break
• Punctuality is mandatory.

1. Handover Responsibilities

• Receive a complete and accurate handover of assigned patients from the previous shift.
• Ensure all patient details, ongoing treatments, and pending tasks are clearly understood.

1. Responsibilities during Duty

Investigations and Consultations

• Arrange and ensure completion of:
  • All prescribed investigations
  • All required specialist consultations
• Follow hospital protocols for all procedures.

Patient Care

Provide and document comprehensive patient care, including:

• Bed care
• Monitoring intake and output
• Ventilator care (if applicable)
• Catheter care
• Ryle s tube (RT) feeding (if applicable)

Doctor Rounds

• Attend all doctor rounds.
• Update patient status and carry out new orders promptly.

Linen Management: Monitor and maintain proper linen usage and records.

Urinary Catheter Care: Ensure proper care, maintenance, and documentation.

1. Equipment and Safety Checks

• Check the emergency trolley during every shift.
• Check the Code Blue bag daily to ensure readiness.

1. Biomedical Waste Management

• Ensure proper segregation of biomedical waste at the point of generation.
• Follow correct disposal protocols.

1. Medication Storage

• Check refrigerator medication stock daily.
• Monitor and record expiry dates.

1. Documentation

• Complete all registers accurately before the end of the shift.
• Ensure no entries are pending or incomplete.

1. Shift Handover

• Provide a clear and detailed handover to the next shift staff.

1. Personal Hygiene

• Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and professional appearance.

1. Incident Reporting

• Report all incidents immediately, including:
  • Needle stick injuries
  • Medication errors
  • Patient falls
  • Any other adverse events
• Follow hospital incident reporting protocols.
