Overview
The House of Wittelsbach is a European royal family and a German dynasty from Bavaria. Its members ruled as dukes, electors, and kings of Bavaria (1180–1918), as well as emperors of the Holy Roman Empire (1328–1347 and 1742–1745), kings of Hungary (1305–1309), kings of Denmark and Norway (1440–1448), kings of Sweden (1441–1448 and 1654–1718) and grand masters of the Teutonic Order (1511–1525). The current head of the house is Franz, Duke of Bavaria.
