Mainframe Developer

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, and maintain applications using COBOL.
• Create and maintain JCL for application execution, batch processing, and job scheduling.
• Develop and maintain programs using IMS DB and DB2 databases.
• Write and optimize DB2 SQL queries and perform database-related development activities.
• Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Perform unit testing, integration testing, debugging, and defect resolution.
• Analyze production issues and provide timely fixes and root-cause analysis.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to development and coding standards.
• Work with cross-functional teams including business analysts, QA, production support, and application teams.
• Prepare technical documentation and support application releases and deployments.
• Monitor batch jobs and troubleshoot job failures and abends.
• Ensure application performance, reliability, and maintainability.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong programming experience in COBOL.
• Strong knowledge of JCL and mainframe batch processing.
• Hands-on experience with IMS DB.
• Hands-on experience with DB2 and SQL.
• Good understanding of VSAM and common mainframe utilities.
• Knowledge of CICS is preferred.
• Experience with debugging tools and utilities such as File-AID, Abend-AID, SORT, IDCAMS, and ISPF.
• Understanding of mainframe SDLC, change management, and production support processes.
