Role Overview
The Legal Officer Litigation will manage the organisation's litigation portfolio and coordinate matters before courts, tribunals, police authorities and government departments. The role requires strong case-management, drafting, stakeholder-coordination and follow-up skills, with a focus on timely filings, statutory compliance, accurate reporting and effective management of external counsel.
Key Responsibilities
Litigation & Case Management
- Represent the organisation as an Authorised Representative or Power of Attorney holder before courts, tribunals, quasi-judicial bodies, police authorities and government departments, wherever legally permissible and duly authorised.
- Attend hearings with the organisation's advocates and support case preparation, evidence collation and hearing strategy.
- Coordinate with external counsel on pleadings, affidavits, vakalatnamas, replies, written statements, appeals and supporting documents.
- Maintain an accurate litigation tracker covering pending, disposed and execution matters, including hearing dates, next steps, court directions and compliance actions.
- Monitor limitation periods and statutory timelines and ensure timely filing and completion of all litigation-related actions.
- Coordinate with internal departments to obtain documents, records, facts and approvals required for legal proceedings.
Police & Government Liaison
- Represent and coordinate on behalf of the organisation before police stations, Economic Offences Wings, labour authorities, revenue authorities and other government agencies.
- Lodge complaints, respond to notices and support investigations in coordination with external counsel and relevant internal teams.
- Maintain clear records of submissions, acknowledgements, statements and follow-up actions with public authorities.
Legal Drafting, Records & Reporting
- Draft and review legal notices, replies, correspondence, submissions and other litigation-related documentation.
- Maintain complete physical and digital case files, legal databases and document repositories with appropriate version control and confidentiality.
- Prepare monthly litigation MIS, legal dashboards and management updates highlighting status, risks, financial exposure and required decisions.
- Prepare Board notes and internal briefs relating to significant legal matters, where required.
External Counsel & Legal Cost Management
- Schedule consultations and meetings with advocates and facilitate travel, accommodation and local transportation when required.
- Review advocate fee bills, reimbursements and related invoices before submission to Finance & Accounts.
- Maintain advocate-wise fee records, matter-wise legal expenses and legal budget trackers.
- Evaluate counsel responsiveness and ensure timely delivery of agreed legal actions and documents.
Corporate Legal Support
- Review contracts, agreements, vendor legal documentation, title documents and other legal records.
- Support recovery matters, insurance claims, execution petitions and legal recoveries through regular follow-up and documentation.
- Assist with arbitration, mediation, legal due diligence and compliance documentation.
- Support HR on labour-law matters and coordinate with business teams on day-to-day legal issues.
Candidate Profile
- LL.B. degree from a recognized university would be preferred.
- 4-6 years of relevant experience in litigation management, court/tribunal matters and corporate legal practice.
- Practical experience coordinating with advocates, police authorities, government departments and internal stakeholders.
- Strong legal drafting, documentation, case-tracking and follow-up capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple matters, prioritise statutory deadlines and maintain accurate MIS and legal records.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, judgement and professional communication.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Exposure to public-authority liaison, corporate legal operations, recoveries, arbitration or labour-law matters.
- Preferred age: 40 years and above.
- Marital status: Married candidates will be preferred.
- Candidates currently based in, or willing to relocate to, Dindigul or Coimbatore.
