Overview

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), also known as the Hare Krishna movement, is a Gaudiya Vaishnava Hindu religious organization founded in 1966 by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. ISKCON is part of the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, a monotheistic branch of Hinduism tracing its roots to Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, a 16th-century religious reformer. ISKCON's core beliefs are based on the Bhagavad Gita and the Srimad Bhagavatam, which emphasize devotion to Krishna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

About Us

ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) was founded to systematically disseminate spiritual knowledge globally and educate individuals in spiritual practices. This aims to correct societal imbalances, foster genuine unity, and establish world peace. ISKCON achieves this mission through a multifaceted approach, establishing temples, self-sufficient farm communities, educational institutions, and vegetarian restaurants across the globe. The organization's core objective is the promotion of Krishna consciousness. This is actively pursued through various methods, including extensive distribution of spiritual literature (books), public chanting of sacred mantras (specifically, Hare Krishna), and dedicated engagement in devotional practices centered around the worship of Krishna. These practices are designed to cultivate a deeper understanding of spiritual principles and a connection with the divine. ISKCON's followers adhere to a specific code of conduct designed to support their spiritual development. This includes a commitment to a vegetarian diet, complete abstinence from all forms of intoxicants (including alcohol, drugs, and caffeine in some interpretations), and refraining from engaging in illicit sexual activities. These principles are considered essential for maintaining a clear mind, healthy body, and focused dedication to spiritual growth within the Krishna consciousness movement. By following these guidelines, members strive to live a life dedicated to spiritual awareness and service.

Vision
