Hiring Manager/Lead Data Engineer in Mumbai

Role & responsibilities

• Directly manage, coach, mentor, and performance manage a team of Data Engineering Managers, fostering a culture of learning, innovation, and collaboration.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key business and technology stakeholders, ensuring effective communication regarding project status, risks, and opportunities.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to deeply understand their data needs and priorities, translating them into actionable data engineering initiatives.
• Champion a Data Engineering culture of Learning, Belonging, and Accountability, driving employee engagement and development initiatives.
• Oversee resource allocation and capacity planning for the Data Engineering team, working with project and solution managers to ensure appropriate staffing.
• Manage vendor relationships and contracts as needed, ensuring optimal value and alignment with Data Engineering goals.
• Identify and lead initiatives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Data Engineering operating model, streamlining processes and automating tasks.
• Drive the adoption of best practices, standards, and data quality improvements across the Data Engineering team.
• Participate in the development and drive the implementation of short-term and long-term strategic initiatives for Data Engineering, ensuring alignment with business goals.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the Data Engineering team, staying up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies, and contributing to the development of data architecture and standards.

Experience required

• 15+ years of overall experience in Data Engineering.
• 5+ years of people leadership, managing mid-to-large data engineering teams, including engineering managers.
• Strong experience in stakeholder management and influencing senior business leaders.
• Deep understanding of data engineering principles, architecture, and best practices.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms.
• Experience working in Agile/Product team environments.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across global teams and time zones.
• Strong analytical and technical problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Skills

• Expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Strong knowledge of Big Data technologies, Data Warehousing, and ETL/ELT frameworks.
• Experience designing scalable data architectures.
• Proven track record of leading and delivering large-scale data engineering projects.
