Forward Deployed Engineer

Role Overview

A Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) works directly with customers to implement, customize, and deploy technical solutions in real-world environments. This is a hybrid role combining software engineering, product thinking, and client-facing problem solving.
Unlike traditional backend or frontend engineers, FDEs operate in the fieldunderstanding customer needs and rapidly building solutions that integrate into their workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with clients to understand their technical and business challenges
• Design and implement custom solutions using internal platforms or APIs
• Deploy and configure software in customer environments (cloud/on-premise)
• Build prototypes, dashboards, and data pipelines quickly
• Translate ambiguous requirements into working systems
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to improve core platforms
• Debug issues in production environments under tight timelines
• Provide technical guidance and sometimes training to clients

Required Skills
Technical:

• Strong programming skills (Python, Java, JavaScript, or similar)
• Experience with APIs, databases, and system integration
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Ability to work across the stack (backend-heavy, but flexible)

Problem-Solving:

• Ability to handle ambiguous, real-world problems
• Systems thinking and quick iteration mindset

Communication:

• Strong client-facing communication skills
• Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in consulting, startups, or customer-facing engineering roles
• Exposure to data engineering, ML systems, or analytics tools
• Comfort working in high-pressure, fast-changing environments

Mandatory Technologies / Skill Set:

• Hands-on experience with CLI-based development tools (e.g., Git, Docker, AWS/GCP CLI, AI CLI agents)
• Experience with API integrations (REST, webhooks).
