Initial Assessment : Rapidly evaluate and triage patients as they arrive in the emergency department, determining the severity of their conditions and prioritizing care based on medical need. Diagnosis and Treatment : Diagnose and treat a broad spectrum of acute medical conditions, including injuries, trauma, cardiac emergencies, respiratory distress, neurological emergencies, and infectious diseases. Stabilization : Provide immediate medical interventions and stabilize patients in critical condition to prevent further deterioration. Emergency Procedures : Perform various emergency procedures, such as intubation, wound suturing, fracture reduction, central line placement, and chest tube insertion. Resuscitation : Lead resuscitation efforts for patients experiencing cardiac arrest, shock, or other life - threatening situations, often working as part of a team. Radiology and Imaging Interpretation : Interpret X - rays, CT scans, and other imaging studies to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Medication Administration : Administer medications, fluids, and life - saving interventions to manage pain, stabilize vital signs, and address medical emergencies. Patient Stabilization : Collaborate with specialists and other healthcare professionals to stabilize patients for further treatment, if necessary.
