Echocardiography Technician

Role & responsibilities

• Perform transthoracic (and, where trained, transoesophageal) echocardiograms on infants, children, and adolescents in accordance with clinical requests and departmental protocols.
• Optimise imaging technique to accommodate the anatomical and behavioural considerations of paediatric patients, including sedation-supported studies where required.
• Ensure accurate labelling, measurement, and archiving of echocardiographic images and reports in the relevant imaging system.
• Liaise with cardiologists and referring clinicians to clarify clinical indications and flag urgent or abnormal findings promptly.
• Prepare and maintain echocardiography equipment, ensuring proper calibration, cleanliness, and infection control standards.
• Support the Paediatric Cathlab team with intra-procedural echocardiographic guidance as required.
• Maintain accurate patient records and comply with hospital documentation standards.
• Participate in quality assurance activities and continuing professional development relevant to paediatric echocardiography
