Job Description: Director BPO Operations (Finance & Accounting)

Location: Chennai

Reports To: Vice President – Operations

Department: Operations

Role Summary

We are seeking a strategic and performance-driven Director of BPO Operations with deep expertise in Record-to-Report (R2R), General Ledger (GL), and sub-ledgers such as Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Fixed Assets, and Bank Reconciliations. The Director will lead a team of 100–150 Finance Specialists delivering Finance & Accounting (F&A) services across multiple clients. The role demands a strong command of accounting operations, stakeholder management, and transformation leadership to drive efficiency, accuracy, and compliance across all engagements. The ideal candidate combines financial domain depth, people leadership, and operational transformation experience within a BPO or Shared Services environment.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Lead end-to-end Record-to-Report and General Ledger processes, including journal entries, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Manage sub-ledger functions such as AP, AR, Intercompany, Fixed Assets, and Bank Reconciliations ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Oversee close calendars, ensure adherence to SLAs and accounting standards, and maintain robust internal controls.
  • Drive productivity, quality, and cost efficiency through continuous process improvement and automation.
  • Provide business insights through analytics, dashboards, and variance analysis.

People & Team Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a team of 100–150 Finance Specialists, Team Leads, and Managers across multiple client accounts.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, learning, and high performance.
  • Build future leaders through coaching, structured career paths, and skills development programs.
  • Lead workforce planning, staffing, and engagement to ensure scalability and retention.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary relationship owner for key Finance & Accounting clients.
  • Drive governance meetings, client reviews, and performance scorecards.
  • Build trusted relationships through proactive communication, transparency, and problem-solving.
  • Partner with client CFOs, controllers, and finance leadership to deliver value-added insights and continuous improvement initiatives.

Transformation & Continuous Improvement

  • Champion automation, analytics, and RPA adoption to streamline finance operations.
  • Lead process re-engineering initiatives in GL, AP, AR, and reconciliation frameworks.
  • Deploy Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy.
  • Collaborate with technology and transformation teams to enhance reporting and operational tools.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with SOX, internal control, and audit frameworks.
  • Oversee P&L management, budgeting, and cost optimization.
  • Identify operational risks and implement preventive controls.
  • Maintain strong governance structures with regular reporting and review mechanisms.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • R2R & GL Expertise: End-to-end ownership of close, consolidation, and reporting cycles.
  • Sub-ledger Management: Proficiency in AP, AR, Bank Reconciliation, Intercompany, and Fixed Assets.
  • Team Leadership: Proven ability to lead large finance teams (100–150 members) with strong engagement and outcomes.
  • Operational Excellence: Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Analytical & Strategic Thinking: Ability to convert financial data into actionable insights.
  • Client Relationship Management: Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
  • Financial Acumen: In-depth understanding of P&L, variance drivers, and margin management.
  • Technology Orientation: Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and automation tools.

Qualifications

  • CA / CA-Inter / MBA (Finance or Accounting) from a recognized institution.
  • 12–18 years of progressive experience in Finance & Accounting BPO / Shared Services, with at least 5 years in R2R & GL leadership roles.
  • Experience managing multi-client, multi-geography finance delivery teams.
  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma / PMP / Black Belt preferred.
