Job Description

The Design Associate is responsible for the design and production of visual collaterals across exhibitions, public programmes, and institutional communications at Science Gallery Bengaluru (SGB).
This role focuses on print and physical outputs, including exhibition graphics, publications, and on-ground programme materials. The Design Associate will work closely with the Programmes, Communications, Editorial, and Exhibitions teams to ensure a cohesive and high-quality visual language across all outputs.
 
Key Responsibilities
1. Design and Production
  • Design and produce visual collaterals for exhibitions, including wall graphics, labels, panels, and wayfinding systems.
  • Design and produce print collaterals for public programmes, including posters, invites, standees, and event materials.
  • Support the design and layout of publications such as catalogues, readers, and reports.\
  • Ensure consistency in visual language across formats and outputs.
  • 2. Print and Fabrication Coordination
  • Prepare print-ready files, ensuring accuracy in layout, scale, colour profiles, bleed, and resolution.
  • Coordinate with printers and fabrication vendors to ensure high-quality production.
  • Support material selection and production decisions in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Review proofs and oversee production timelines to ensure timely delivery.

  • 3. Collaboration and Workflow
  • Work closely with the Programmes, Communications, and Exhibitions teams to translate briefs into design outputs.
  • Incorporate feedback and iterate on designs across multiple stakeholders.
  • Support the development and adaptation of visual identities for different exhibition seasons and programmes.
  • Maintain organised design files and workflows across projects.

  • 4. Programme and Institutional Support
  • Support ongoing programme needs with quick-turnaround design outputs where required
  • Contribute to documentation and archival of design assets
  • Assist in maintaining consistency across digital and print communications
  • Person Specifications
  • 2 3 years of experience in graphic design with a strong focus on print and physical collaterals.
  • Demonstrated experience designing for print, including publications, large-format graphics, or exhibition-related outputs.
  • Experience taking projects from design to final production, including working with printers and vendors.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple design outputs across timelines.
  • Strong understanding of typography, layout, and visual hierarchy.
  • Working knowledge of print production processes, including pre-press and file preparation.
  • Rigorous attention to detail, especially in print accuracy and output quality.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and respond to feedback.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to understand and translate briefs into visual outputs.
  • Interest in current science, technology, and arts and culture contexts.
  • Ability to read and write Kannada is desirable.
  • A degree in design, visual communication, or a related field is required; formal qualifications are secondary to portfolio and demonstrated experience
