Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day purchase activities for machining parts, bought-out components, and job work requirements.
  • Review purchase requirements/indents and ensure timely procurement as per production and inventory requirements.
  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery capability, capacity, and technical requirements.
  • Develop new vendors and strengthen the existing vendor base to ensure reliable and competitive sourcing.
  • Float RFQs (Request for Quotations), obtain and analyze quotations, negotiate commercial terms, and finalize suppliers.
  • Prepare and release Purchase Orders (POs) in accordance with approved requirements and commercial terms.
  • Coordinate with vendors for timely delivery, quality issues, dispatches, and other procurement-related concerns.
  • Handle procurement of machining components, bought-out parts, and job-work activities, including rate and cost analysis.
  • Conduct job-work and vendor cost analysis to ensure competitive pricing and optimum procurement costs.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with Stores, Production, PPC, and other concerned departments to ensure material availability and avoid excess/short inventory.
  • Track open purchase orders and follow up with suppliers for timely delivery as per committed schedules.
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, delivery, cost, responsiveness, and service, and maintain supplier performance records.
  • Identify supplier-related risks and initiate corrective actions wherever required.
  • Support cost reduction initiatives through vendor development, alternate sourcing, price negotiation, and process improvements.
  • Maintain proper documentation related to RFQs, quotations, comparative statements, POs, vendor evaluations, and purchase records.
  • Coordinate with Quality and Engineering teams for supplier development and resolution of quality-related issues.
  • Ensure procurement activities are carried out in accordance with company policies, approved vendors, specifications, and commercial requirements.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of Purchase & Procurement processes.
  • Good understanding of machining parts and bought-out components.
  • Experience in vendor identification, development, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of RFQ, quotation comparison, negotiation, and PO processing.
  • Understanding of job work procurement and cost analysis.
  • Good knowledge of inventory management and material planning.
  • Ability to evaluate and monitor supplier performance.
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Good analytical and commercial acumen.
  • Good coordination and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and ERP/SAP would be preferred.
