Role Overview
We are looking for highly motivated Database Administrators with strong expertise in PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and SQL Server to manage, optimize, and secure our production database environments.
The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in database administration, performance tuning, replication, backup & recovery, cloud infrastructure, and automation. The role requires close collaboration with Engineering, DevOps, Product, and Infrastructure teams to ensure highly available, secure, and high-performing database systems.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and SQL Server databases.
- Design, implement, and manage highly available database architectures, including replication, clustering, failover, and disaster recovery.
- Configure and manage PostgreSQL Streaming Replication, Logical Replication, MongoDB Replica Sets, and Sharded Clusters.
- Perform database migrations across versions and platforms, including SQL Server to PostgreSQL migrations.
- Plan and execute database upgrades, patches, and maintenance activities with minimal downtime.
Performance Tuning & Optimization
- Monitor and optimize database performance across production environments.
- Analyze and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, indexes, execution plans, and database statistics.
- Identify and resolve slow queries, locking issues, deadlocks, blocking sessions, and I/O bottlenecks.
- Perform database housekeeping activities such as VACUUM, ANALYZE, index maintenance, and statistics updates.
- Design efficient database schemas and indexing strategies to improve application performance.
Backup, Recovery & High Availability
- Design and implement robust backup and recovery strategies.
- Manage backup tools such as:
- pgBackRest
- pg_basebackup
- MongoDB Backup/Ops Manager
- Perform periodic backup validation and disaster recovery drills.
- Define and maintain RPO/RTO objectives for critical databases.
- Ensure business continuity through automated backup and failover mechanisms.
Monitoring & Reliability
- Implement proactive database monitoring and alerting.
- Monitor database health, replication lag, storage utilization, CPU, memory, and query performance.
- Utilize monitoring platforms such as:
- Prometheus
- Grafana
- PMM
- Nagios
- Zabbix
- Conduct regular health checks, capacity planning, and database audits.
Database Security
- Implement database security best practices.
- Configure authentication, authorization, role-based access control (RBAC), SSL encryption, and auditing.
- Ensure secure database access following the principle of least privilege.
- Perform regular security reviews and compliance checks.
Cloud Database Administration
- Manage databases hosted on AWS infrastructure.
- Optimize AWS database infrastructure for performance and cost.
- Support cloud-native database deployments and migrations.
- Collaborate with the DevOps team for infrastructure automation and provisioning.
Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Automate routine database administration tasks using Shell, Bash, or Python scripting.
- Develop automation for backups, health checks, maintenance, monitoring, and reporting.
- Contribute to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) initiatives where applicable.
- Identify opportunities to improve database operations through automation and standardization.
Collaboration

- Participate in production support, root cause analysis (RCA), and incident management.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline.

Experience Requirements
Database Administrator (3+ Years)
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and MongoDB administration.
- Good understanding of SQL performance tuning.
- Experience in backup and recovery.
- Production database support.
