Job Summary

Liminal Custody is looking for a Senior Database Administrator to own the reliability, performance, security, and resilience of the databases powering our critical platforms. This is more than a traditional DBA role. You will work across PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora, RDS, MongoDB, ORM, and GraphQL, partnering closely with Engineering, DevOps, and Security teams to build highly reliable and secure data infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Own the availability, performance, reliability, and security of production databases.
• Administer and optimize PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora, RDS, and MongoDB environments.
• Design and maintain backup, recovery, replication, and high-availability strategies.
• Monitor database health, capacity, performance, and resource utilization.
• Troubleshoot complex database performance and production issues.
• Optimize queries, indexes, schemas, connections, and database configurations.
• Work with Engineering teams on ORMs, database design, migrations, and query optimization.
• Support applications using GraphQL and ensure efficient and secure data access patterns.
• Implement and maintain database security controls, including access management, encryption, auditing, and least privilege.
• Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and RTO/RPO initiatives.
• Automate database operations, monitoring, provisioning, and routine maintenance wherever possible.
• Support incident response and root-cause analysis for database-related incidents.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience as a DBA / Database Engineer / Database Administrator.
• Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Practical experience with AWS Aurora and RDS.
• Good experience managing MongoDB in production environments.
• Strong understanding of database architecture, replication, backups, recovery, and high availability.
• Strong SQL skills with experience in query and performance optimization.
• Experience working with ORM frameworks and understanding their impact on database performance.
• Familiarity with GraphQL and modern application data-access patterns.
• Good understanding of AWS, Linux, networking, and cloud infrastructure.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with database monitoring and observability tools.

Good to Have

• Experience with AWS database architecture and automation.
• Experience designing databases for highly available, security-sensitive systems.
• Experience with Terraform or Infrastructure as Code.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and containerized workloads.
• Experience with database security, auditing, and compliance.
• Exposure to blockchain, Web3, fintech, or digital asset infrastructure.
