Data Governance Consultant

We are looking for a Data Governance professional with hands-on Microsoft Purview experience to build and operationalize the data governance framework across our enterprise data estate. You will own cataloguing, classification, lineage and data quality initiatives, and work closely with data engineering, security and business stewardship teams to make trusted data discoverable and compliant.

Key Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure and administer Microsoft Purview (Unified Catalog / Data Map) across Azure, on-prem and multi-cloud sources
• Set up and manage scans, scan rule sets, integration runtimes and collection hierarchies for sources such as ADLS Gen2, Azure SQL, Synapse, Fabric, Snowflake, Databricks, Power BI and SAP
• Build and maintain the business glossary, data domains, data products and term-to-asset mappings
• Configure classification rules, sensitivity labels and MIP integration; support DLP and compliance requirements (GDPR, DPDP Act, HIPAA, SOX as applicable)
• Establish end-to-end data lineage across ingestion, transformation and consumption layers
• Define and monitor data quality rules, profiling and health controls within Purview
• Implement RBAC, access policies and data-owner/steward workflows
• Automate governance operations using Purview REST APIs, PowerShell and Azure DevOps pipelines
• Drive adoption: steward onboarding, training, documentation and governance council reporting
• Partner with data architects and engineering teams to embed governance into data platform design

Must-Have Skills

• 5+ years in data governance / data management, with 2+ years hands-on Microsoft Purview
• Strong working knowledge of the Azure data stack ADF, ADLS Gen2, Azure SQL, Synapse, Microsoft Fabric
• Experience with metadata management, business glossary design, data classification and lineage
• Understanding of data privacy and regulatory frameworks (GDPR, DPDP, CCPA)
• SQL proficiency; scripting in Python or PowerShell
• Experience with Purview APIs / Atlas APIs for bulk operations and automation
• Strong stakeholder management and documentation skills

Good to Have

• Exposure to Collibra, Alation, Informatica IDMC or Atlan (migration experience is a plus)
• Microsoft certifications: DP-203, DP-600, SC-400 or SC-100
• Experience with Databricks Unity Catalog or Snowflake governance features
• Knowledge of data mesh / data product operating models
• Power BI for governance dashboards and KPI reporting
