Job Description

Job Title: Backend Developer / Node.js, Python & FastAPI Microservices Engineer

Job Overview

The Backend Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend and on-premise microservices for the AI-Enabled Engineering Intelligence Platform. This role requires hands-on experience in Node.js, TypeScript, Python, FastAPI, REST APIs, microservices, databases, enterprise integrations, and secure deployment in customer-controlled environments.

The engineer will work with architects, data engineers, AI/ML engineers, frontend developers, DevOps, and business stakeholders to build backend services that support data ingestion, document processing, AI agents, workflow orchestration, validation, and enterprise system integration.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and develop backend services and microservices using Node.js, TypeScript, Python, and FastAPI.

- Develop scalable REST APIs for platform modules, AI agents, data pipelines, document workflows, and user interface integration.

- Build on-premise deployable microservices that can run securely within customer infrastructure without external dependency where required.

- Implement backend services for information extraction, information retrieval, impact analysis, document validation, authoring support, and workflow management.

- Integrate with enterprise systems such as SAP, SharePoint, Solumina, EagleNET, engineering document systems, and internal applications.

- Develop backend logic for user management, role-based access control, approval workflows, task routing, audit tracking, and document lifecycle management.

- Support AI-enabled workflows by integrating backend services with RAG pipelines, embeddings, vector databases, AI agents, prompt orchestration, and MCP layers.

- Work with structured and unstructured data from APIs, Excel files, FTP/SFTP, SharePoint, enterprise exports, PDFs, Word documents, and metadata repositories.

- Design and manage database interactions using PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, SQLite, or similar data stores.

- Implement secure API access using OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, API keys, RBAC, and enterprise authentication mechanisms.

- Build reusable backend components following microservices, clean architecture, modular design, and secure coding practices.

- Support event-driven and message-based processing using Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis Queue, Celery, AWS SQS/SNS, or similar technologies.

- Collaborate with frontend teams to provide APIs for dashboards, uploads, downloads, document review, workflow monitoring, and integrations.

- Write unit tests, integration tests, API tests, and support QA during functional, regression, and system testing.

- Support deployment using Docker, Kubernetes, Docker Compose, CI/CD pipelines, and on-premise runtime environments.

- Ensure backend services are reliable, scalable, secure, observable, maintainable, and suitable for enterprise-grade production usage.

Required Skills

- 10+ years of backend development experience with hands-on expertise in Node.js and/or Python.

- Strong experience in Python FastAPI for building APIs and microservices.

- Strong proficiency in TypeScript / JavaScript and backend frameworks such as NestJS, Express.js, or Fastify.

- Hands-on experience in developing RESTful APIs and microservices-based applications.

- Good understanding of microservices architecture, service boundaries, API contracts, distributed systems, and service-to-service communication.

- Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, SQLite, or similar technologies.

- Experience in integrating enterprise systems through APIs, file-based interfaces, FTP/SFTP, SharePoint, and middleware services.

- Knowledge of authentication and authorization using OAuth2, JWT, OpenID Connect, RBAC, and secure API practices.

- Hands-on experience with Docker, Docker Compose, and basic understanding of Kubernetes or containerized deployments.

- Experience with on-premise application deployment, environment configuration, network constraints, secure endpoints, and customer-controlled infrastructure.

- Experience with Git, Azure DevOps / GitHub, Postman, Swagger/OpenAPI, Jira, and API documentation standards.

- Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines, logging, monitoring, exception handling, and production support.

- Ability to write clean, maintainable, testable, and deployment-ready backend code.

Preferred Skills

- Experience working on AI-enabled platforms, engineering data platforms, document processing systems, or enterprise automation platforms.

- Basic understanding of LLMs, RAG, embeddings, vector databases, AI agents, MCP, and prompt orchestration.

- Experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex, OpenAI APIs, Azure AI, local LLMs, or on-premise AI model integration.

- Experience with engineering or manufacturing systems such as SAP, PLM, MES, SharePoint, Solumina, EagleNET, or document management platforms.

- Knowledge of document processing using Python libraries for PDF, Excel, Word, JSON, XML, and unstructured data handling.

- Experience with event-driven architecture, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis Streams, Celery, or message queues.

- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, along with ability to support hybrid or on-premise deployment models.

- Familiarity with Terraform, ARM templates, CloudFormation, or infrastructure automation.

- Exposure to observability tools such as ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or New Relic.

- Knowledge of secure deployment practices in restricted, air-gapped, customer-controlled, or on-premise environments.

- Good communication skills and ability to work with architects, product teams, data teams, AI teams, DevOps, and business stakeholders.
