Head of Compliance Compliance & Statutory Affairs

About the Role


Cheran Group is looking for an experienced Head of Compliance to lead end-to-end statutory and regulatory compliance across its diversified group entities, including Real Estate, Education, Financial Services, Tea Estate & Beverages, and Aquaculture.


The role will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate compliance across all group entities and coordinating with statutory auditors, tax auditors, internal auditors, consultants, regulators and senior management.


Key Responsibilities


  • Own and manage the group-wide statutory compliance calendar covering ROC, Companies Act, Income Tax, TDS, GST, PF, ESI, Professional Tax and other applicable regulations.
  • Coordinate with statutory, tax and internal auditors for audit planning, execution, closure and finalisation of accounts.
  • Ensure timely finalisation of financial statements in coordination with Finance & Accounts teams and auditors.
  • Maintain statutory registers, minute books, corporate records and board/committee meeting compliances.
  • Manage compliance requirements relating to trust/society and educational regulatory frameworks, including UGC, AICTE and applicable state regulations.
  • Monitor applicable RBI/NBFC and financial services compliance requirements.
  • Liaise with ROC, Income Tax, GST, RBI, Labour Department and other regulatory authorities.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel, Company Secretaries, tax consultants and other professional advisors.
  • Develop and maintain a compliance tracker/dashboard covering due dates, filing status, pending actions and compliance gaps.
  • Identify statutory and regulatory risks and implement corrective and preventive measures.
  • Support internal audit, risk management and closure of audit observations.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations and advise Management on their impact.
  • Support statutory and regulatory due diligence for new transactions, JVs and acquisitions.

Qualification


Mandatory:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) – Qualified

Preferred:

  • Company Secretary (CS) – Qualified
  • Additional certification/specialisation in Taxation, Corporate Law or RBI/NBFC Compliance will be an advantage.

Experience


  • 8–15 years of post-qualification experience in statutory compliance, audit coordination and financial statement finalisation.
  • Experience managing compliance across multiple entities or diversified group companies is strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience coordinating directly with statutory and tax auditors through audit closure and finalisation.
  • Exposure to Trust/Society Compliance and/or NBFC/Financial Services Regulations will be an advantage.
