SOS Childrens Villages of India are an independent, non-governmental and non-profit organization working for the holistic development of parentless children as well as women and children from vulnerable families. For over 60 years, we have reached over 65000 children through our 32 SOS Childrens Villages and 28 community projects in India positively impacting over 83000 lives. We continue to provide children without parental care or at the risk of losing it, a value chain of quality care services that goes beyond childcare alone, to ensure comprehensive child development as well as ways to strengthen communities and families as a preventive measure in the fight against abandonment and social neglect.

Purpose:

He/she supports SOS Kinship families to ensure building a healthy and safe environment for holistic development of Kinship children.

Areas of Responsibility

1. To Support the SOS Kinship caregivers in the development of children

• Support services to Kinship Caregivers in health and to ensure that basic immunization has taken place for eligible children. Providing awareness about health, HIV, sanitation, emerging sex and reproductive health of adolescents.
• BMI to be ensured as per guidelines and provide psychosocial support on need basis.
• Support services to Kinship Caregivers in promotion of positive behaviors amongst children
• Support services to Kinship Caregivers in career planning from adolescent age
• Organize capacity building programs for KINSHIP caregivers related to key areas of Child Safeguarding, Parenting, Alternative Means of Discipline, Higher and Vocational Education Guidelines and concurrence to be sought from ACZ for finalization of courses and institutes.
• Support caregivers and children to identify tutors for tuition classes.
• Support services to project to complete legal formalities with Govt. authority and Caregivers
• Individual counseling to children and purposeful interactions on regular basis
• Support Caregivers in organizing uniforms, books, stationery for children for education
• Prepare Individual Care Plan for each child and monitor the progress of the child as per plan
• Ensure timely and submit quality reports in childrens files and other documentation
• Ensure MI/MN test for all eligible children to ascertain the proper career findings.
• Ensure linkages of programme with Govt schemes of the state
• Coworker to ensure Monitoring of monthly activity plan and outcome analysis

2. To support the Caregivers in development of her family

• Support services to Caregivers in proper utilization of family accounts and maintenance of its record.
• Regular monthly visit to Kinship families
• Selection of Mentor for each family
• Monitoring the visits of Mentors regularly

3. To organize developmental activities for children

Organize fun and developmental activities for children on individual, group and community basis.

Organize English communication and computer literacy classes

Contribute towards engaging the community to take onus for safety and security of kinship children in the community

4. Helping in enrollment of children in Programme

• Support the child gatekeeping process by collecting information about the childs background and present situation by home studies.
• Regular entries of children and caregivers to be done by Coworkers in Program Data Base and review as per guidelines.
• Support the Director-Kinship in liaison with CWC, on admission and reporting of children.
• Support in settling of young people and continuing relationships
• Preparing children’s career plan and admission in employable courses
• Support in locating employment and liaison with employers

5. Supporting Kinship In-charge in organizing external resources

• Taking care of visitors and sponsors as necessary
• Supporting the Village Community in building SOS brand of Kinship
• Assisting Director in statutory and licensing matters.

6. Other Responsibilities

• Carry out the tasks as assigned by Director- Kinship

Working conditions

Posted in Kinship as a non -residential coworker. Visiting Kinship families to ensure comprehensive development of children while living with their own relatives.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for the position of Kinship Coworker at SOS Children’s Villages of India is a compassionate, committed, and community-oriented professional with the following background:

Education & Experience

• A Post Graduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Child Development, or a related field.
• A minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in working with children, families, or communities—preferably in the development or child protection sector.

Key Competencies & Attributes

• Strong understanding of child rights, child safeguarding practices, and family strengthening models.
• Experience in providing psychosocial support, conducting home visits, and implementing individualized care plans for children.
• Ability to work collaboratively with caregivers to support children's health, education, and career planning.
• Skilled in liaising with government departments and leveraging social welfare schemes.
• Capable of organizing and facilitating developmental activities, capacity building sessions, and community engagement programs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in maintaining documentation and reporting.
• Comfortable working in field settings, with regular travel to kinship families.
• Proficient in using basic computer applications and program databases for data entering, tracking and analysis.
