Roles & Responsibilities of a CNC Operator

• Set up and operate CNC machines such as lathes, milling machines, or machining centers.
• Load raw materials and securely clamp workpieces into the machine.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and job orders.
• Select and install the correct cutting tools, fixtures, and machine settings.
• Monitor machine operations to ensure parts meet quality standards.
• Measure finished components using precision instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
• Inspect parts for dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
• Make minor machine offset adjustments to maintain product quality.
• Replace worn or damaged cutting tools as needed.
• Perform routine machine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance.
• Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and production schedules.
• Maintain production records and inspection reports.
• Ensure compliance with workplace safety rules and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Identify and report machine malfunctions or quality issues to supervisors or maintenance personnel.
• Minimize material waste and help improve production efficiency.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of CNC machine operation.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T basics.
• Familiarity with measuring instruments (vernier, micrometer, dial gauge, etc.).
• Basic understanding of G-code/M-code (preferred).
• Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Strong commitment to quality and safety.
• Ability to work in shifts and as part of a team.
