Job Description - VMC / CNC Operators

Roles & Responsibilities:


Machine Operation

  • Operate CNC Turning and VMC (Vertical Machining Centre) machines as per production requirements.
  • Load and unload raw materials and finished components safely.
  • Execute machining operations according to approved CNC programs and work instructions.
  • Monitor machine performance during production.

Production

  • Achieve daily production targets while maintaining product quality.
  • Ensure components are produced within specified cycle times.
  • Minimize machine idle time and maximize productivity.
  • Report production status to the Shift Supervisor.

Quality Inspection

  • Perform first-piece and in-process inspections.
  • Measure dimensions using Vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, and dial gauges.
  • Verify parts meet engineering drawing and tolerance requirements.
  • Segregate and report non-conforming parts.

Tool Handling

  • Replace worn or damaged cutting tools.
  • Perform tool offset corrections as instructed.
  • Monitor tool life and inform supervisors when replacement is required.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of cutting tools.

Drawing Interpretation

  • Read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Follow process sheets, setup sheets, and work instructions.
  • Understand basic GD&T requirements relevant to the operation.

Machine Maintenance

  • Perform routine machine cleaning and basic autonomous maintenance.
  • Check coolant, lubrication, hydraulic oil, and air pressure levels.
  • Report machine abnormalities, alarms, or breakdowns to the maintenance team.

Safety & Housekeeping

  • Follow all plant safety rules and wear the required PPE.
  • Operate machines safely and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Maintain 5S standards in the work area.
  • Handle materials safely using approved methods and equipment.

Documentation

  • Record production output and inspection results.
  • Update production and quality records accurately.
  • Report machine downtime, tool changes, and production issues.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Suggest improvements to reduce cycle time and improve productivity.
  • Support waste reduction and quality improvement activities.

Team Coordination

  • Coordinate with supervisors, quality inspectors, tool room, and maintenance teams.
  • Ensure smooth shift handover with complete production status.

  • CNC Turning, VMC, or HMC machine operations in automotive, aerospace, or precision engineering industries.
