This is a builder and improver role not a ticket-only or passive operations position. You will work directly on production Azure platforms, automate repetitive operational work, improve observability and alert quality, and strengthen recovery readiness. You ll partner closely with senior ECSS engineers and adjacent Digital IT teams while helping modernize day-to-day operations through cloud-first practices.
What you ll do as a Cloud Engineer:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Cloud Infrastructure Operations
  • Operate and support Azure and hybrid infrastructure services in production environments, including compute, storage, networking, and foundational platform services.
  • Execute production changes with strong operational rigor, including change control, validation, documentation, and rollback planning.
  • Troubleshoot availability, performance, capacity, and configuration issues across cloud and virtualization layers, driving issues to root cause.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical ECSS-managed platforms.
Automation Infrastructure as Code
  • Design, build, and improve automation to reduce manual operational work and increase reliability.
  • Write and maintain scripts and tooling (PowerShell, Bash, and/or Python) to support platform operations, validation, and incident response.
  • Contribute hands-on to Infrastructure as Code initiatives using Terraform and/or Bicep, including developing, testing, and improving reusable modules and standards.
Monitoring, Alerting Observability
  • Improve observability across ECSS platforms using logs, metrics, dashboards, and alerts.
  • Help tune alerting to reduce noise while improving actionable signal and response quality.
  • Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, and post-incident follow-through, including implementing corrective and preventive improvements.
Backup, Recovery Resilience
  • Support backup and recovery solutions for cloud and hybrid workloads.
  • Validate recovery procedures and participate in restore testing and recovery-readiness activities.
  • Improve documentation, runbooks, and operational readiness for backup and disaster recovery scenarios.
Operational Excellence
  • Produce and maintain clear runbooks, KB articles, diagrams, and operational documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to standardize, simplify, and improve ECSS operational practices.
  • Partner with senior engineers to learn and apply reliability, scalability, and secure design principles.
  • Execute all other duties as assigned.
What you will bring to the team:
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in cloud, infrastructure, or systems engineering roles.
  • Hands-on Azure experience is required, including day-to-day operation and troubleshooting of production workloads.
  • Experience supporting Windows and/or Linux systems in production environments.
  • Practical experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Bash, and/or Python).
  • Experience working with monitoring, alerting, or logging platforms in a production environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to drive issues through investigation, resolution, and documentation.
  • Experience working in structured operational environments (change management, incident response, runbooks).
  • A continuous-improvement mindset - you look for ways to automate, standardize, and reduce operational toil
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or Bicep.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure core services (VMs, storage, networking, identity/Entra ID).
  • Exposure to backup, disaster recovery, or resiliency planning for enterprise workloads.
  • Experience supporting hybrid environments (Azure + on-prem virtualized infrastructure).
  • Relevant certifications (Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Associate, Linux certifications).
