- Job Title: Principal Cloud Architect – Infrastructure & Application DevelopmentRole Overview
The Principal Cloud Architect will own the end-to-end technical strategy, blueprint design, and implementation framework for both our cloud infrastructure and application ecosystems. This role requires a unique hybrid skill set: the ability to design resilient, automated, and secure AWS infrastructure alongside the capability to architect modern, event-driven, cloud-native software applications. You will ensure that infrastructure and application code are perfectly optimized to work together.
Core Responsibilities
- Unified Architecture Design: Author comprehensive technical designs spanning core cloud infrastructure (landing zones, networking, security) and application layers (microservices, APIs, data pipelines).
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Standardization: Define, build, and enforce enterprise-grade IaC patterns to ensure completely automated, immutable infrastructure deployments.
- Application Modernization: Architect high-throughput, fault-tolerant application backends using AWS serverless and container primitives.
- Cloud Security & Compliance: Implement zero-trust security architectures, ensuring robust identity management, data encryption, and network isolation.
- Performance & Cost Optimization: Conduct AWS Well-Architected Reviews to continuously optimize application performance, reliability, and cloud spend.
- Technical Governance: Establish coding standards, architectural guardrails, and branching strategies for both DevOps and application engineering teams.
Technical Requirements
1. Infrastructure & Networking Mastery
- Core Networking: Deep expertise in AWS VPC design, Subnetting, Route Tables, Transit Gateway, PrivateLink, and Route 53.
- Security & Identity: Advanced implementation of AWS IAM (Permission Boundaries, SCPs), AWS Organizations, KMS, Secrets Manager, and AWS WAF.
- Infrastructure as Code: Hands-on mastery of Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation to manage multi-account AWS environments.
2. Application Development & Integration
- Compute & Orchestration: Expert-level design using AWS Lambda, Amazon ECS (Fargate), and Amazon EKS.
- API & Integration: Deep knowledge of Amazon API Gateway, AWS Step Functions, and AppSync.
- Event-Driven Architectures: Proven experience building asynchronous workflows using Amazon EventBridge, SQS, and SNS.
- Data Tiering: Advanced data modeling for Amazon DynamoDB (Single-Table Design), Amazon Aurora, and caching via Amazon ElastiCache.
3. DevOps & Observability
- CI/CD Pipelines: Experience building unified pipelines that deploy both infrastructure and code using AWS CodePipeline, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI/CD.
- Observability: Implementation of full-stack monitoring using Amazon CloudWatch, AWS X-Ray, or OpenTelemetry.
Soft Skills & Leadership
- Ability to write clear, production-grade code in at least one major language (e.g., Python, Node.js, Go, or Java).
- Exceptional communication skills to present technical roadmaps to both C-level executives and engineering teams.
- Strong mentorship skills to upskill infrastructure engineers in software practices, and software engineers in infrastructure practices.
Preferred Certifications
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional (Highly Preferred)
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional
- AWS Certified Security – Specialty or Advanced Networking – Specialty
