About Us

Burger King, initially named Insta-Burger King, was founded in 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida, by Keith J. Kramer and Matthew Burns. Facing financial difficulties, the company was acquired by James McLamore and David Edgerton, who rebranded it as Burger King. Over the years, Burger King experienced several ownership changes, including periods under Pillsbury, Grand Metropolitan, Diageo, and a Texas Pacific Group-led consortium. In 2010, 3G Capital acquired Burger King, taking it private. A significant strategic move occurred in 2014 when Burger King merged with Tim Hortons, forming Restaurant Brands International (RBI). Despite the merger, Burger King retains its distinct brand identity while functioning as a crucial part of RBI's brand portfolio. This evolution underscores Burger King's adaptability and resilience within the competitive fast-food sector, demonstrating its capacity to navigate evolving market dynamics under various ownership structures. The creation of RBI through the merger with Tim Hortons reflects a strategic initiative to build a broader portfolio of iconic food brands, capitalizing on synergies and expanding market reach while maintaining the unique appeal of each brand. Burger King's sustained success highlights its enduring brand recognition and consistent adaptation to evolving consumer preferences in the fast-food industry. The company's history illustrates its ability to not only survive but thrive amidst changing economic landscapes and consumer demands.
