Bharat Broadband Network
Overview
Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) was a company established by the Government of India to create a National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) to provide broadband connectivity to all Gram Panchayats in India. The project aimed to connect villages with high-speed internet to facilitate e-governance, e-health, e-education, e-banking, and other services. BBNL was later merged with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in 2022.
About Us
Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL), a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) established by the Government of India, was created to build a national broadband infrastructure, specifically the BharatNet network. BBNL aimed to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas through planning, design, construction, and maintenance of this network, collaborating with state governments, telecom operators, and technology providers to achieve widespread connectivity. In 2023, BBNL merged with BSNL to streamline operations and accelerate the BharatNet project's implementation. This consolidation leverages BSNL's existing infrastructure and expertise to enhance BharatNet's reach, enabling faster and more efficient broadband deployment nationwide. The strategic merger optimizes resources and expedites the government's vision of a digitally empowered India, ultimately connecting more citizens and fostering digital inclusion.
