Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Azure Data Engineer to support the transformation of legacy systems into modern, cloud-native data platforms using Azure SQL and related services. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in data engineering, cloud migration, and building & implement scalable data architecture.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and maintain Azure SQL databases and related services
Architect and implement multi-tenant database models using Azure SQL Database, including:
o Shared schema, schema-per-tenant, and database-per-tenant patterns
o Elastic pools and resource governance for tenant scalability
Optimize query performance using indexing, partitioning, and execution plans
Monitor and troubleshoot database performance using Azure Monitor, Query Performance Insight, and SQL Profiler
Implement backup and disaster recovery strategies, including geo-replication and failover groups
Ensure data security and compliance (e.g., encryption, RBAC, firewall rules)
Collaborate with development teams to support application data needs
Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or ARM templates provisioning, scaling, and maintaining tenant databases
Design and optimize SaaS database infrastructure for high availability, disaster recovery, and cost efficiency
Implement data partitioning, row-level security, and tenant isolation mechanisms
Collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams to integrate database design into CI/CD pipelines
Monitor performance using Azure Monitor, Query Performance Insight, and custom telemetry
Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) across tenant environments
Required Qualifications:
Strong experience with Azure SQL Database, T-SQL, and cloud-native database design
Proven track record in designing SaaS applications with multi-tenant architecture
Deep understanding of tenancy models and trade-offs in scalability, isolation, and cost
Performance tuning, query optimization, and data modeling
Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, and automation via powerShell/CLI
Strong understanding of cloud architecture, PaaS vs IaaS, and Azure Resource Manager
Experience with Azure Data Factory, Logic Apps, or Synapse Analytics is a plus
Knowledge of security best practices and regulatory compliance (e.g. GDPR, HIPAA)
Good to Have:
Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Database Administrator Associate
Exposure to Virtuoso Graph Database & SPARQL.
Understanding of RDF Query Language.
