Role Overview

Nexelon Chem Pvt Ltd is seeking a highly qualified and proactive Assistant Manager - Plant Safety to lead, implement, and oversee all Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies at our Khambhat chemical manufacturing plant.

The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering a robust safety culture, ensuring strict compliance with local and national environmental and safety regulations, and minimizing workplace hazards. As a critical leader on site, you will drive hazard identification, incident investigations, safety audits, and emergency response readiness to achieve a zero-harm working environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Safety Leadership & Culture: Develop, implement, and drive a world-class safety culture across the entire Khambhat site. Promote proactive hazard reporting and behavioural-based safety (BBS) programs.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure total compliance with the Indian Factories Act, State Factory Rules, GPCB (Gujarat Pollution Control Board) norms, MSIHC rules, and other applicable statutory safety and environmental regulations.

  • Risk Assessment & Hazard Mitigation: Lead Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), HAZOP studies, and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for existing operations and new expansions.

  • Incident Investigation: Lead the investigation of all near-misses, minor, and major incidents. Conduct root-cause analysis (RCA) and ensure the timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

  • Emergency Preparedness: Formulate, update, and periodically test the On-site Emergency Plan. Organize regular mock drills, fire-fighting training, and manage the plant's emergency response team.

  • Audits & Inspections: Conduct regular safety audits, workplace inspections, and safety committee meetings. Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations.

  • Safety Training: Design and deliver comprehensive safety induction and ongoing training programs for company employees, contractual labourers, and visitors regarding chemical handling, PPE usage, and work-permit systems.

  • Work Permit System: Oversee and audit the daily Permit to Work (PTW) system, including Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, Height Work, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.


Preferred candidate profile


  • Education:
    • B.E. / B.Tech in Chemical / Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.

    • Mandatory: Masters degree or Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Safety (DIS) / H.S.E Management from a State Technical Board (e.g., CLI, RLI, or equivalent approved institute as per the Factories Act).

  • Experience: 10–15 years of experience in EHS management within a hazardous chemical manufacturing plant, petrochemicals, or agrochemical industry.

  • Technical Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of chemical process safety, hazardous material handling, and fire protection systems.
    • Proficiency in conducting HAZOP and industrial hygiene assessments.
    • Strong familiarity with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) standards.

  • Soft Skills: Strong commanding presence with excellent communication and persuasive skills in English, Hindi, and Gujarati (preferred). Ability to handle high-pressure emergency situations calmly.
