Job Description
Job Role: Analytics Engineer 1
You should apply if you have:
- 1-3 years of experience in analytics engineering, data analysis, BI, or data engineering - or a strong mix.
- Strong SQL, at modeling grade - CTEs, window functions, incremental logic, and query optimization.
- Hands-on experience with dbt (models, refs, tests, incremental builds) - or clear, demonstrable ability to pick it up fast.
- A real data-modeling instinct - dimensional/star-schema thinking, grain discipline, and a Silver Gold mindset.
- Comfort working in a cloud data warehouse (Redshift preferred; Snowflake / BigQuery welcome) with Git-based version control.
- The ability to turn an analysts or stakeholders need into a clean, reusable model rather than a one-off query.
- An AI-first mindset and comfort using AI tools to speed up your engineering and modeling workflow.
You should not apply if you:
- Prefer writing one-off queries over building reusable, governed models.
- Are uncomfortable with SQL, data modeling, testing, or version control.
- See the role as taking tickets rather than owning a layer of the stack end-to-end.
- Are resistant to dbt/testing discipline, code review, learning new tools, or leveraging AI to improve your productivity.
- Prefer maintaining fragile legacy jobs over building scalable, tested, version-controlled models.
- Dont enjoy collaborating upstream (with Data Engineers) and downstream (with Analysts and business teams).
- Are looking for a narrow role rather than one that demands ownership, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
Skills Required:
Technical Skills
- Advanced SQL (CTEs, window functions, incremental logic, query optimization)
- dbt - models, refs, tests, incremental builds, documentation
- Data modeling (dimensional / star schema; Silver Gold transformation layers)
- Cloud data warehouse - Redshift (preferred), Snowflake, or BigQuery
- Git / version control and CI for data workflows
- Understanding of the modern data stack (lakehouse, ELT, medallion architecture)
- Python for analysis and automation (good to have)
- Power BI / data visualization (good to have - to close the loop with analysts)
Business Analytical Skills
- Translating ambiguous stakeholder and analyst needs into reusable, governed models
- Metric definition and governance - a single source of transformation truth
- Reconciliation, data-quality, and testing mindset
- Strong problem-solving and attention to correctness
- Collaboration across Data Engineering, Analytics, and business functions
- Experience working with D2C, E-commerce, Retail, or Consumer business data (preferred)
What will you do
- Own the Silver Gold dbt modeling layer for your domains - clean, tested, documented models that dashboards and analysts depend on.
- Migrate legacy stored-procedure marts into version-controlled, testable dbt models, reconciled against the numbers they replace.
- Build the models and marts behind core roadmap projects (D2C Product Analytics + CDP-lite, and later Omnichannel Sales PL).
- Write dbt tests and documentation, and keep a reliable pull-request review cadence so nothing silently breaks downstream.
- Automate recurring reporting and ops workflows - feeding our AI Automation track.
- Partner with Data Engineers upstream (raw data in Bronze) and Analysts downstream (dashboards on Gold).
- Contribute to the data dictionary and the emerging semantic layer as the single source of metric truth.
What success looks like
During your first six months, youll:
- Become fully productive in our dbt stack, owning models independently by around week eight.
- Migrate priority stored-procedure marts into dbt, reconciled against legacy outputs.
- Ship the models behind a core roadmap project (e.g. D2C analytics / a Gold mart).
- Automate at least one recurring reporting or ops workflow end-to-end.
- Have every model you own documented and dbt-tested, with a dependable review cadence.
