Job Description
- As an AIX Admin, your primary responsibility would be to manage and administer IBM AIX (Advanced Interactive eXecutive) operating systems within an organization's IT infrastructure
- AIX is a Unix-based operating system that is widely used in enterprise environments
- Here is an overview of the responsibilities and skills required for an AIX Admin:Responsibilities:System Installation and Configuration: Install and configure AIX operating systems on servers, ensuring proper setup and integration with the hardware and network infrastructure
- System Monitoring and Maintenance: Monitor system performance, disk usage, and network connectivity
- Perform routine system maintenance tasks such as applying patches, firmware updates, and security fixes
- User Management: Create and manage user accounts, groups, and permissions
- Set up and configure access controls to ensure data security and privacy
- System Security: Implement and maintain security measures to protect AIX systems from unauthorized access, viruses, and other security threats
- This may include configuring firewalls, implementing access controls, and conducting security audits
- Backup and Recovery: Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies to ensure the availability and integrity of data
- Perform regular backups, test restore procedures, and develop disaster recovery plans
- Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution: Identify and resolve system issues and errors, including hardware failures, software conflicts, and network connectivity problems
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to minimize future incidents
- Performance Optimization: Monitor system performance and identify areas for improvement
- Optimize system resources, tune kernel parameters, and configure system components to enhance overall system performance
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps
- Prepare reports on system performance, incidents, and maintenance activities
Skills and Qualifications:
- AIX Expertise: In-depth knowledge and experience with IBM AIX operating systems, including installation, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with AIX commands, utilities, and file systems
- System Administration: Proficiency in system administration tasks, such as user management, system monitoring, disk management, software installation, and security management
- Networking: Understanding of network protocols, IP addressing, and network troubleshooting
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and routing configurations on AIX systems
- Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in shell scripting (such as Korn shell or Bash) to automate routine tasks, create custom scripts, and streamline administrative processes
- Hardware Knowledge: Familiarity with IBM Power Systems hardware, including server models, hardware components, and firmware updates
