Job Description: AI-Ready Full Stack Developer
Overview
We are looking for an AI-Ready Full Stack Developer with strong experience across React, Python, and database engineering, combined with a modern approach to AI-assisted software development using tools such as GitHub Copilot. This role is suited to a developer who is technically strong, delivery-focused, and comfortable working in an environment where human expertise and AI-enabled productivity go hand in hand.
The successful candidate will design, build, enhance, and support modern digital applications across the full technology stack. They will work on user-facing interfaces, backend services, APIs, data handling, and database design, while using AI-assisted development responsibly to improve speed, quality, documentation, and maintainability. This is not simply a role for someone who uses AI tools casually; it is for someone who understands how to incorporate them thoughtfully into engineering practice without compromising security, architecture, governance, or code quality.
Role purpose
The AI-Ready Full Stack Developer will be responsible for delivering robust, scalable, and maintainable solutions across web, service, and data layers. The role requires strong engineering fundamentals, sound judgement, and the ability to translate business needs into well-structured technical solutions.
A key aspect of the role is the ability to work effectively with Copilot-assisted development workflows. This includes using AI support for code generation, refactoring, unit test creation, documentation, debugging assistance, and developer acceleration, while ensuring all outputs are reviewed critically, validated thoroughly, and aligned with engineering standards.
Key responsibilities
- Full stack application development: Design, develop, test, and maintain end-to-end solutions using React for the front end and Python for backend services and APIs.
- Frontend engineering: Build responsive, accessible, and intuitive user interfaces using modern React patterns, reusable components, state management approaches, and integration with backend services.
- Backend engineering: Develop secure and performant backend services in Python, including RESTful APIs, business logic, service orchestration, and integration with internal and external systems.
- Database development: Design, query, optimise, and maintain relational or non-relational databases, ensuring data integrity, performance, and scalability.
- AI-assisted engineering: Use GitHub Copilot and similar AI development tools to accelerate coding tasks such as scaffolding, boilerplate generation, refactoring, documentation, and test creation, while applying strong human oversight and engineering judgement.
- Code quality and maintainability: Produce clean, modular, reusable, and well-documented code that adheres to agreed standards, patterns, and secure development practices.
- Testing and debugging: Create and execute unit, integration, and functional tests; troubleshoot issues across the stack; and improve overall application reliability.
- DevOps and delivery support: Contribute to build, deployment, and release processes, including CI/CD pipelines, environment configuration, and production support where required.
- Collaboration: Work closely with product owners, designers, architects, data specialists, platform teams, and other developers to shape solutions and deliver outcomes at pace.
- Continuous improvement: Contribute to engineering best practices, reusable assets, documentation, and ways of working that improve developer productivity and delivery quality.

Required skills and experience
- Strong experience in full stack software development, with hands-on delivery across frontend, backend, and database layers
- Proven expertise in React, including component-based architecture, hooks, API integration, and modern frontend development practices
- Strong Python development experience, including API development, backend logic, and application integration
- Good database knowledge, including schema design, SQL, query optimisation, and data modelling
- Experience working with REST APIs, JSON-based integrations, and service-oriented architectures
- Familiarity with GitHub Copilot or similar AI-assisted coding tools in a professional development setting
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including version control, code review, testing, documentation, and secure coding
- Experience with Git-based workflows and collaborative software development
- Ability to assess, validate, and refine AI-generated code rather than accepting it at face value
- Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and a delivery-oriented mindset
Desirable skills
- Experience with FastAPI, Flask, or Django
- Experience with TypeScript
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and modern deployment patterns
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, containerisation, or DevOps tooling
- Experience with automated testing frameworks
- Understanding of application security, authentication, and authorisation patterns
- Exposure to data-driven applications, reporting, or analytics integrations
- Experience working in regulated, enterprise, or large-scale technology environments
AI-assisted development expectations
This role requires a mature and responsible approach to Copilot-assisted development. The successful candidate will be expected to:
- use AI tools to improve productivity, reduce repetitive effort, and accelerate delivery
- critically review all AI-generated output for correctness, security, maintainability, and architectural fit
- avoid over-reliance on generated code where deeper engineering judgement is required
- ensure generated code complies with organisational policies, security standards, and intellectual property expectations
- use AI support to strengthen documentation, unit testing, code readability, and developer experience
